Athletes play with a little something extra against their former teams, and Royals starting pitcher Nate Karns was no exception in a 7-3 win over the Rays. Karns carved up his former team for 10 strikeouts, which matched a career high. He also improved to 2-2 with the win.
Marcell Ozuna may not be the biggest name on the Marlins’ roster, but the underrated Cheap Utah Jazz Jerseys outfielder continued to rake in a 9-4 loss to the Cardinals. Ozuna went 2 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs to raise his average to .325 for the season.
Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez was forced to watch a few too many of his pitches sail over the fences at Camden Yards. Gonzalez allowed six earned runs off of seven hits, four walks and three home runs in just six innings pitched. He fell to 3-1 on the season as the Nationals lost 6-4 to the Orioles.
Former big-leaguer Todd Hollandsworth went a step further.
“I don’t believe there has ever been an accidental sacrifice fly,” he said. “No hitter walks to home plate and fails to realize there’s a runner on third with less than two outs. It is his job to assess the situation. Hitting is about relaxing the mind, simplifying the demands of the situation, and then executing.”
Hollandsworth continued: “I have never hit a sacrifice fly and not slapped hands with Basketball Jerseys Custom every teammate in the dugout. … I’ve found that rule ridiculous. … Why should a hitter be penalized for doing what the situation asks?”
