One of the top power-hitting prospects in baseball is headed to the majors.
The Dodgers are calling up Cody Bellinger from Triple-A Oklahoma City, the team announced Tuesday.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Bellinger — who is primarily a first baseman — will move into the team’s outfield rotation, playing left and center field in the absence of Joc Pederson, who landed on the disabled list Monday with a groin strain.
“I think we could do 40 and I think it’d be a good race for the city and for me and him to get our names out there,” Hamilton said Thursday, via the Cincinnati Inquirer. “It’s something we could look forward to looking into, our agents (could talk) and see how it goes.”
Hamilton, 26, lacks the racing pedigree of Ross and readily admits he last ran a timed 40 in ninth grade, when he did it in 4.5 seconds. But speed remains the best element of the former top prospect’s MLB repertoire — he has 200 stolen bases in 424 big league games — and should prove worthy as a competitor.
The move clears up salary cap space for Houston to make a run Cheap Jerseys Youth at acquiring Tony Romo, as the Texans will save $10 million against the cap this season.
The Browns reportedly are not committed to paying the entire amount of the remaining three years on the four-year, $72 million contract the Texans gave Osweiler last season, so they’ll essentially pay Osweiler’s hefty 2017 salary in exchange for that second-round pick in next year’s draft. Cleveland has the money to absorb Osweiler’s contract with over $102 million in available salary cap space.
